I WAS BORN in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Besides Regina, I have previously lived in the Canadian cities of Brantford, London and Montreal. I also lived in London, England for a short while. I currently live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
AS A KID I played soccer, did gymnastics, competitive swimming, competitive diving, synchronized swimming, track & field, speed skating and dance. I also played classical guitar.
AS A TEENAGER I had lots of different jobs including tree planter, assembly line worker, waitress, babysitter, ward clerk, life guard, receptionist and cashier. MATH & SCIENCE were my favourite subjects in school. |
I NEVER DREAMED OF BEING A WRITER when I grew up. I wanted to be a airline pilot or a doctor.
AT UNIVERSITY I earned two degrees: an Honours Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Business Administration.
DURING MY BUSINESS CAREER I have worked as a professional manager in the aerospace industry, the biopharmaceutical industry and the financial services industry. I have also taught business at the college level. I GOT MARRIED when I was twenty-eight years old. My husband Nick and I had three children in the next three-and-a-half years. I TRIED WRITING FICTION FOR THE FIRST TIME when my firstborn was six weeks old. As I reached out to type my first words, it felt as though I was slipping my hands into a pair of gloves that had been waiting for me my whole life. |
IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME to get my first book published.
I NEVER GAVE UP because I knew it was the only way to guarantee that I would fail.
I FIND WRITING exhilarating, frustrating, satisfying, exhausting and hard. I can't imagine life without it!
